how does coaching differ from therapy?

Coaching is a process that helps bring out the potential in a client. This process is done by emotionally connecting the client’s inner purpose and passion to outer goals and strategies to bring about extraordinary and sustainable results. Coaches sees their clients as having everything they need to make the changes in their lives, and will empower their clients to find their own answers and solutions. Coaches will also look to the future, using tools and resources to help their client move forward towards their goals.

Therapy is about healing the past and unraveling old traumas and hurts. Therapists will spend a great deal of time giving detailed reasons into why their clients do what they do, and will try to help the clients learn to slowly unfurl those paradigms. Therapists will also help their client cope with these past emotional issues through direct guidance and direction, and will take charge of the conversations to better help their client understand their issues. Therapy is about healing the past.

what are the benefits of having a life / career coach?

The benefits of coaching are several: you have someone that is solely dedicated to you and the achievement of your goals. They are non-judgmental, supportive, encouraging and motivating. They advocate for you, and hold a space for you and your vision. They keep you focused on where you want to be and moving forward in the right direction. They will enable you to get to where you want to be in your life and career, much faster than you could on your own. Having a coach will also allow you to have someone to be accountable to, and to push you when you are unable to challenge yourself.

how many sessions do I need?

This depends on what you want to achieve with your coaching. Many come with a life changing goal in mind. In order to achieve this goal, coaches break it down into smaller goals, which need to be achieved each session, to move you closer to your overall goal. Depending on the goal, the work put in by the client and any unforeseen bumps in the road, the amount of sessions will vary. For instance, someone coming into help change their leadership style will be different than someone coming in wanting to change their career completely but not knowing what they want to do.

What happens after the twelve sessions are over?

If after the initial 12 sessions you find that you need more coaching, and/or you want ‘maintenance’ coaching, I offer a subscription of four additional sessions, to be used in two months time. You can renew these four session blocks as often as you’d like.

what happens during the sessions?

During each session we will check in on the actions and achievements from the last session and look at general progress and ‘wins’. We will then set a ‘session goal’ to clearly set out what you want to achieve by the end of the day’s session. We then explore where you are at the moment with that particular goal, and what is needed to be addressed or resolved to achieve that goal. We also investigate any inner or outer blocks which may impede reaching the goal, and any new insights and learning. We conclude the session with any action plans required and the accountability required to move forward. Each session is 50 minutes long.

what can i expect in my first session?

Before our first session, I will send you some ‘homework’, so I can get a better idea of what you’re looking to do and where you’re at momentarily in respect to your overall goals. In that first session, which will be approximately an hour-and-a-half, we will go over the answers and determine where we need to go. We will spend the majority of the time pinpointing exactly what it is the big goal is so that we don’t waste time later on trying to figure it out as we go.

what’s expected of me during the coaching process?

Coaching is a partnership. Its power comes from the energy put into it by both client and coach. Your success will depend on you committing the time, energy and effort required to achieve your goals.  There will be actions required to be completed in-between sessions and these will be addressed frequently as we move forward. Clients who push themselves to do the work will find themselves rewarded with new results and insights as they move through the coaching process. It’s like anything else in life - you get out of it what you put into it.

How do I book my first session?

Booking a session requires applying for coaching. It’s very simple - go to the Coaching page and click the button at the bottom. Fill out the form and I will get back to you ASAP. We can then set up a time to have a 45 minute discovery session (free of charge) where we can see what it is you need, where you want to go and to also see if we’re a fit! We can then go from there.
